Job Vacancy: Pest Control Officer

An opportunity has arisen within our Public Protection Department to recruit a full time Pest Control Officer to join our team of officers who work with businesses, schools and local residents to manage safe and healthy living and working environment and working alongside our Environmental Enforcement Team to ensure that our Borough is cared for and protected.

We are looking for a qualified officer or someone with experience who is currently studying toward the Royal Society Public Health Certificate in Pest Control who is able to work on their own initiative, is motivated, reliable, trustworthy, dependable and flexible to their approach to work and enjoy working in a team environment and having direct involvement in tackling environmental issues and ensuring that vermin and the spread of disease is controlled and eradicated from within our Borough.

Working alongside Public Health Enforcement Officers, the successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting premises, applying the correct treatment to manage the issue and give advice on how to prevent further infestations. Additionally, the officer will carry out pest culling & sewer baiting, and occasionally will support the Hygiene Action Team in carrying out drain cleaning, commercial cleaning such as house clearances, fly tipping & unauthorised/dumped rubbish removal, working at heights to install pigeon proofing.

The job requires an element of manual lifting & movement on a daily basis so you must have a good level of fitness. You will sometimes be working in emotionally difficult or physical unpleasant conditions and you must have the ability to deal with diverse situations.

As a front line service delivery Officer, you will support local Residents, businesses, schools and other public service departments and will be expected to conduct and present yourself in a professional, respectful & appropriate manner. Offering additional services and being commercially motivated is also an attribute that we are looking for. You will be expected to manage your workload, keep computer & paper records of tasks completed and in hand and manage stock of treatments used. Deputising for and supporting the Hygiene Team will also be required from time to time and a committed attitude for continued learning and development is a requisite of this post. A uniform and personal protective equipment will be provided for your safety and well-being.
You will also be required to hold a full driving licence and have a car suitable for holding equipment & treatments to use to undertake your daily duties and an essential car user allowance is offered to the successful candidate.
